What is Active Release Technique (ART)?

Active Release Technique (ART) targets the soft-tissues (muscle, tendon, ligaments) and any dysfunction they have, typically being range of motion, limited function, pain with motion and/or at rest. The ART skill set provides both the tools and the knowledge to find soft-tissue dysfunction at the source and not just treat the painful points. I have taken the training to identify and work with a variety of issues that are not effectively treated with conventional approaches.

ART helps to:
Increase motion – releasing tension in muscle, tendon, ligaments, and fascia leading to more mobility
Resolve pain – breaks down adhesions and scar tissue build up in the body
Restore function – relieves tightness, inflammation, and adhesions leading to better functionality
Optimize performance – with better functioning joints and muscles you can work, exercise, and play more freely

In my experience, I’ve seen ART be the most effective for soft-tissue injuries that have not been satisfactorily resolved with regular chiropractic, physical therapy, stretching, strengthening, massage or other typical approaches. If those approaches had worked, you wouldn’t be reading this. It’s not always the right approach for a particular issue, but when it is the right approach, you will know within the first few sessions and sometimes even minutes. I don’t want to oversell and tell you it will solve all soft-tissue injuries or issues, nothing can do that, but I’ve been able to find and resolve more issues with ART than with any of my other massage, stretching, and corrective exercise protocols. –Andrew Baker, LMT
